Manystuff / RCA London / Work in Progress show / Communication Art & Design projects focusing / Jean Jullien

The proposition of Jean Jullien for the WIP show is a formal experimentation that started as a reaction against his own current working process. He usually work with papers to create three dimensionnal scenes and characters.
Jean says: “Paper is a very easily manipulated material to cut, paste, fold, tear and do all sort of things with. So I normally decide what to create before making it, the final object being defined by the idea. Wood is the opposite. It’s strong, static, and difficult to transform. In order to challenge my practice I cut out random shapes in a big piece of wood and then ponpered about what to make out of them. I ended up drawing things according to what could fit in the wooden shapes, so that the format would decide of the content, rather than me.”
