Bauhaus Dessau + Spector Books – Books, Folder, a Magazine
A conversation with Philipp Oswalt and Anne König
For a year Bauhaus Dessau has been collaborating with the Leipzig-based publisher Spector Books. An institution with a long tradition that had a decisive influence on the design and architecture of the 20th century meets a publisher that offers a carefully considered approach to the medium of the book.
Philipp Oswalt, director of the Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, and Anne König, editor at Spector Books, will present their collaborative publication projects. Special attention will be paid to the second issue of the journal bauhaus, which focuses on the relationship between the Bauhaus institution and Israel.
In addition a portfolio of works by the Bauhaus student Kurt Kranz that was designed by Stephan Müller and Tanja Wesse will be presented as well as the publication schwarz: weiß / weiß: schwarz, a series of drawings by Kurt Kranz that Wassily Kandinsky wanted to publish in the early 1930s. Though this project never came to fruition due to the economic crisis of the time, 80 years and a few economic crises later Spector Books and Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau were finally able to complete it.
