Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective

December 30th, 2008

Sol LeWitt: A Wall Drawing Retrospective

“… LeWitt—who stressed the idea behind his work over its execution—is widely regarded as one of the leading exponents of Minimalism and Conceptual art, and is known primarily for his deceptively simple geometric structures and architecturally scaled wall drawings. His experiments with the latter commenced in 1968 and were considered radical, in part because this new form of drawing was purposely temporal and often executed not just by LeWitt but also by other artists and students whom he invited to assist him in the installation of his artworks …”

Alphabet Truck

December 19th, 2008

Alphabet Truck

Chaînon manquant entre The back of all trucks passed while driving
from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara de John Baldessari et Auchan,
Edition Florence Loewy

With this edition of Alphabet Truck, Eric Tabuchi completes a work
representing several thousands of kilometers traversed over these
past four years. The missing link between The back of trucks passed
while driving from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara by John Baldessari
and Auchan, the letters of Claude Closky, Eric Tabuchi pushes the
burlesque or compulsive logic of his piece in an almost derisory
search for what could constitute its Danish and Japanese origins.
Through language (Alphabet) and displacement (Trucks), Alphabet Truck
therefore questions, beyond its formal aspects and references, the
notions of membership, identity and coeducation.

Text/Messages: Books by Artists

December 16th, 2008

Text/Messages: Books by Artists
While literature is often a point of departure, artists’ books often bear little resemblance to conventional volumes. Many are sculptural, multidimensional, or made of material other than paper—some have no pages at all. Over the past three decades, the Walker has amassed a significant collection of books by artists, now numbering some 2,000 objects (…) the show highlights this important trove of material, which is supplemented with pieces from the museum’s collection. Showcasing examples from a broad range of artistic movements, the books and book-based works on view come from some of the most recognizable names in contemporary art as well as lesser known artists. The process of selecting the works in Text/Messages: Books by Artists was a fascinating endeavor for the curators, who found the premise of the exhibition to be an ideal opportunity to explore many areas within the Walker’s collections …

Editorial Cloud – 16×16

Editorial Cloud
16×16

Each of the sixteen students at MFA Graphic Design Program at Yale School of Art gave a presentation of their thesis topic on September 2008. To reinterpret everyone else’s thesis topic to mine, E Roon Kang set up a blog using WordPress, parsed those scripts into smallest unit, so that one can rearrange them and find out interesting combination of units for their own purposes. Since it was all done in pre-existing platforms, there was certain amount of inefficiency involved and revealed during production.
