Jonathan Puckey – Trace a Face
Konst & Teknik presents a lecture with Jonathan Puckey and release of the publication “Trace a Face”.
“I attended a lecture by Karel Martens in 2005. He was talking about how much his work is based on the limitations of printing techniques such as letterpress and litho. I felt very jealous, because my computer doesn’t have any limits. Being able to produce anything feels like a heavy weight on my shoulders. Every single decision becomes so full of meaning; I could have done it in thousands of other ways. Tools are able to create a little world of logic that break up all these decisions into larger pieces. You’ve already solved a number of problems by creating the tool and now you’re left to spend more attention on performing the design.”
Jonathan Puckey is a graphic designer and programmer based in Amsterdam. Jonathan uses programming as a important part of his design process and instead of relying on already existing tools, he creates his own. Jonathan will give a lecture on his work and talk about his attitude towards graphic design.
Konst & Teknik has invited fellow artists and designers to create and image using Jonathans “Delauney Raster” tool. The result is collected in the publication ‘Trace a Face’, for sale during the evening (and later online at www.konst-teknik.se).
Contributers in the publication are 1:2:3, Europa, Fageta, Florian Ludwig, Harm van den Dorpel, Kristina Brusa, Laurenz Brunner, Martijn Hendriks, Martin Ström, NODE Berlin Oslo, Ola Persson, Stefan Narancic and Åbäke.
“Trace a Face” is the first in a series of collaborative projects initated by Konst & Teknik under the name ‘&’.

A timely debate – Wim Crouwel & Jan van Toorn
In 1972, graphic designers Wim Crouwel and Jan van Toorn debated their ideas and beliefs before an audience at Amsterdam’s Museum Fodor.
On 2 November, in commemoration of that now-historic night, the pair will converse before an audience once more.
